Pursuing a minor in Philosophy

Program requirements

A philosophy minor consists of 18 hours, including nine hours of upper-division credit and three hours each in logic and analytical reasoning, ethics and social thought, and history of philosophy.

  1. PHI 105(3) or 305(3).
  2. One course in Ethics: PHI 302(3), 313(3), 332(3), 340(3), 342(3), 345(3).
  3. One course in the History of Philosophy: PHI 306(3), 310(3), or 312(3).
  4. Additional nine hours of Philosophy courses to total at least 18 hours including at least 12 hours of upper division credit.
    Each instance of PHI 197, PHI 397, and PHI 496 may satisfy one of minor distribution requirements when its topic is deemed suitable by the department.

Adding a minor

The philosophy minor is available with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Education (Non-Certifiable) or Bachelor of Social Work. To add a minor, see your advisor or visit the Academic Advising and Transfer Center in University Hall 109.
